GOT MARRIED!!

Yep. It finally happened.  On June 16, 2007 Adam and I were married at Westlake Village Inn in Ventura County.  It was a lovely time with family and friends.  We had peeps come all the way from Japan (Aaron Bitzer) and Canada (Angie & Dan Thorton, and my great uncle and aunt Ping & Bing Yee).  The ceremony started around 10:30 am.  It certainly took us ladies longer to get ready than we had anticipated...but worth it!  Bridesmaids include Tricia Lam (maid of honor), Karissa Lee (long time GOC friend), Jennifer Fritsch (roommate and UCSD friend of the groom) and Amanda Thompson, (GCC and missions pal).  Groomsmen were Albert Lin (best man and roommate), Richard Chen (USCD friend), Jeremy Cagle (GCC and seminary pal) and Justin Lyon (home church, GCC and seminary pal) who flew in that morning from Nor Cal because he was in another wedding the night before.  Officiants included Pastor Chris Bruynzeel, Adam's jr. high pastor and family friend and Dr. David Smith, TMC biblical counseling mentor.  We had an Italian lunch buffet in a bright, open room overlooking a tranquil green pond and golf course.  A Nacho Libro groomscake was presented later in the afternoon to the delight of the happy groom. ;)  We got a free night at the inn before taking off to our honeymoon hotel in Carmel by the Sea.  The next morning was Father's Day so we took the opportunity to meet up with our parents for brunch at Marmalade Cafe.  It was a blessing to be able to spend time with them and reminisce about the previous day's events. Still getting used to the new last name--it's got quite a few letters more than the old one: Chiappelone.  (Chap-uh-lone-ee)

I'm Alive!

October 9, 2006: Warrenville, Illinois.

Yes, I'm still alive!  My travel season ended well.  This year I met two really sweet counselors from Cal Baptist and Trinity International.  In Texas, Kimberly (CBU) and I found out that we had the same travel schedule so we stayed in the same hotels for the Chicago trip and were together in Arizona and San Diego.  In Chicago, I met Ruthina (Trinity) and we took the Metra downtown for lunch on our last day before she headed off for a church retreat.  It was my first experience with Chicago pizza which was yummy.  Before the last college fair, Kimberly and I were able to hit in infamous Gurnee Mills outlet center which was right across the street from our hotel.  Arizona was interesting.  It really is a desert with cactus and dirt.

Things at work have settled down but things at GCC are picking up.  Lots of Christmas parties.  Also, it’s official….I’ll be going to Myanmar in February with GCC to teach ESL and support the local missions there.  Stay tuned…more on that to come!

Ruthina and I grabbed Starbucks after lunch before we headed back to the bus.

Just another beautiful day in Illinois.

1. Grab the book nearest you, turn to page 18, line 4?
“sits at a table.”  (a quote from Thomas Hooker)  How about line 5, “Some qualities that make an admirable husband make a dismal beau.”  Marriage to a Difficult Man:The “Uncommon Union” of Jonathan and Sarah Edwards by Elizabeth Dodds

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What can you touch?

Call List file folder.  Lists of students to call about their TMC application, recruiting, etc.

3. What's the last thing you watched on TV?
I can’t remember because I never watch TV.  I think I caught bits of the last two episodes of American Idol.  Katheryn is from Sherman Oaks by the way, where I currently reside.  No I haven't seen her “around town” lately.  Sometimes I catch bits of the news when my roomie has it on.

4. Without looking, what time is it?
2:15PM

5. What time is it actually?
2:21PM

6. Except for the computer what can you hear?
Steve (who works upstairs and is charge of getting fundraising and smoozing donor’s for the college) talking to Megan (our office manager).

7. When did you last step outside and what were you doing?
At 11:30am I left my office in red athletic shorts and a dark blue tank top with my ipod to walk to the fitness center for a 30 minute lunch break workout.

8. Before you started this survey what were you doing?
I was returning a call from a student who has already called me 4 times today because she just got accepted into the college and needs to figure out her registration paperwork before orientation begins on Saturday.

9. What are you wearing?
Dark blue Express jeans (yay for jean day, the last jean day for the summer since the students get back next week. Dark jeans seem dressier than the regular blue.) Dark brown v-neck Banana Republic tee and a trendy necklace.  (Accessories really help to vamp up the ole’ Tshirt and jeans ensemble.

10. Did you dream last night?
I usually don’t remember my dreams unless I wake up in the middle of them.  So I’m not sure if I did or not.

11. When did you last laugh?

5 minutes ago reading Angie’s comment on “Do you like to dance?”: “no. I’m an embarrassment to my people.  As I’ve been quoted saying, “it’s hard to believe all this doesn’t know how to move.”

12. What's on the walls in the room you're in?
Pictures: a picture of Adam and me (from Tiana’s wedding last June) and another one of us at my cousin’s wedding in Carmel three years ago, random pictures of friends and family and pictures Adam took on my birthday last year at the Venice Canals in Marina Del Ray.

13. Seen anything weird?
No.  From my office window is a view of Vider Hall, which houses the Human Resource, Registrar and Accounting department.  Nothing suspicious going on there.

14. What do you think of this quiz?
Entertaining.

15. Last film or video seen? Tuesday nite: Inside Man.  Interesting.  A good rental.

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight what's the first thing you'd do?  Let’s be honest, first I’d go shopping and buy clothes, and a new car, then I’d give money to all my oversea’s missionary friends.

17. Tell me something I don't know about yourself? My feet are rather large for my height and weight.  I often trip over my big toes because they are so BIG.

18. If you could change one thing about the world regardless of politics what would it be?  Good question, if I actually knew something about politics, maybe I would have a good answer.  Well, my friend who works for a congress women said politics is all about compromise, people are so corrupt.  That’s sad, so less corruption???

19. Do you like to dance? Yes. But I’m not that good at it.  Good thing dancing usually happens in the dark.

20. What comment would you like to make to George Bush?
It’s a hard job being president, but someone’s gotta do it.  I’m praying for you Mr. President!

21. Your first child is a girl what do you name her? I have no idea!

22. Your first child is a boy what do you name him? I like boy names that start with J like Jacob, Jared, and Jonathan

23. Would you ever consider living abroad? Yes…like Hawaii….Oh you mean like overseas in a different country.   Yes!  I’ve been to Brazil and hopefully will make it over to Europe one of these days.  Not sure where yet though!

24. What do you want God to say to you when you reach the pearly gates? I’ve never thought about that before.  I think just seeing Him face to face would be enough for me!

 25. Five people you want to do this quiz? I tag:

Admissions Staff Retreat

As many of you know, I currently work at The Master's College as an admissions counselor.  My main job is to recruit and aid students through the admissions process.  My territories this year are: local California (Santa Clarita and Antelope Valley County), Texas, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan and HAWAII.  Last year had a two week recruiting trip to Texas where I mainly worked in the Dallas and Fort Worth area and did a weekend in Houston.  This upcoming travel season (September-November) I will be traveling to Texas, Chicago, Arizona and San Diego.  Anyone have good church contacts in any of these areas?  Send them my way!

Last week, Thursday through Friday we had our staff retreat down in Newport.  Friday morning we had a nice kayak excursion in Newport harbor.

I ordered a club sandwich at the Cheesecake Factory in the Sherman Oaks Galleria on the way down to Newport.  Yes, one of those sandwich quarters are almost as big as my face!

Here are some of my lovely coworkers and 05 graduates of TMC: Sarah, Erin and Megan.

Fine dining for dinner at Joe's Crab Shack.  Most of us ordered crab.  As some of you might remember, I don't particularly care for seafood although I do appreciate a good plate of fish and chips now and then.  Megan ordered popcorn shrimp as was kind enough to share with me.  It was delish!! Fun place especially for kids.  They had a balloon artist who made some pretty amazing creations!

Erin and I opted to share a kayak-the red one on the right.

Here's the whole crew: Jonathan, Shannon, Erin, Hollie, Megan, Sarah, and Nate.

Yay We're Up 'N Running!

Tuesday, August 8th:  Double Date with Kevin and Jean

After much anticipation and IMing over what we were going to order Adam, Kevin, Jean and I had our first double date to THE COUNTER BURGER in Santa Monica.   We arrived around 7:30ish and had a 45 minute wait before the seater came to tell us the restaurant wasn't seating any more guests because they were having a "plumbing" problem.  Uhh yeah, so we ended up doing a take out order not sure where we were going to sit.  Thankfully. in the parking lot next door there happened to be a painted concrete table under a street light so we camped out and ate our burgers.

Kevin and Jean order.

Adam and Shannon Order.

The long awaited burger!

Four Happy Campers!
